I would like to extend a personal invitation to you to join us at the Protea President Hotel, Cape Town for the 40th SATSA National Annual Conference. One of the great benefits of working together is that we can achieve far more than if we work separately. This is as true of associations as it is on the sports field. Your presence as a valued member and a core player in the tourism industry would enhance this event.

The theme this year is: SATSA means Business: Are YOU Ready for Take-Off and we shall be dealing with a wide variety of issues that affect tourism in support of this theme.

Cape Town is pulling out all the stops to make this a particularly memorable event, as it is the first time for several years we have held the event in Cape Town, AND IT IS OUR 40TH BIRTHDAY!

As well as the full Conference programme of Speakers, there will be opportunities for audience participation — we do want to hear your views — and a full social programme that includes:

• An elegant Dinner to be held on Friday night, 21 August;

• An excellent and affordable conference and accommodation package! In the spirit of the financially strained times, we have worked hard with our partners and Protea Hotels have come to the party – the conference delegate packages are exactly the same as last year!!

Current global events are affecting tourism to our country. SATSA must be part of the very important discussion around this topic. We must not give in to despondency – the market WILL turn, the flu epidemic WILL pass, and we must be ready. Hence our theme of survival and being “ready to take off” when things improve. We still have the same beautiful, beloved country to sell, we still have great products of every kind, and we still have the same great bunch of people running our industry. We have come through our election with flying colours in the eyes of the world, and we are currently successfully hosting top international sporting events, with more to come as 2009 rolls out.

We shall have a great team of speakers, especially people who have a sound personal knowledge of our industry. They will tell you how to survive the downturn, and be ready for the upturn. And we shall be informing you again of all the great benefits you get as a SATSA member — and they are increasing all the time.

There is a great opportunity to showcase your company, and get your name up in lights by offering assistance in the form of prizes, speaker gifts, pillow gifts, or services such as transport or accommodation. Please e-mail your offers as soon as possible to lins@satsa.co.za. All suitable offers of assistance will be duly acknowledged at the Conference. We already have some great sponsors lined up, although we still need more! And your assistance in that regard is invaluable. So come and talk to SATSA if you feel you can come forward as a sponsor, or contact me at ceo@satsa.co.za. Not all our sponsorships are large – we need members to sponsor such things as tea and coffee breaks for example. We need a sponsor for the dinner, and all sponsors will get excellent exposure throughout the conference. Service providers to the tourism industry are particularly welcome to sponsor.

We will also have a selection of industry leaders detailing how you can maximise your business relationship with them, and take your company to new business heights. This will complement a key section of the programme which deals with how to get the most out of your association and the benefits available to your company. Bonding took us all to a new level in the international tourism arena. We will be presenting some key new tangible benefits that take SATSA even further as a trendsetter and innovator. Come and hear, learn more, and give us your thoughts and feedback.
