The conference is a world first and leaves behind the stereotypes of bodies which have traditionally only focussed on first-world issues, and clearly sets out to identify relevant issues in developing and economically challenged communities. Participating nations in pilot studies on problem identification, which will feed their reports back to the Conference, include South Africa, Namibia, Mozambique, Tanzania, Ghana, Cameroon, India, Vietnam, Indonesia, Guyana and Brazil, with strong participation and coal-face involvement from European role players.
The programme is focussed on assessing the scope of wound care issues in economically challenged countries and proposing and setting parameters for a global strategy to investigate and address solutions in this area of wound care, with a follow up conference on policies for implementation.
Keynote International Speakers for this conference will include the Ministers of Health of participating nations as well as Dr Kinsley Asiedu of the WHO and Dr John McDonald of WAWLC to name a few. Keynote national speakers include Prof Alan Widgerow, Hiske Smart, Dr. Gregory Weir and others.

| PRE-CONFERENCE PUBLIC AWARENESS DAY | CONFERENCE ADVOCACY COMBINED WITH EVIDENCE BASED PROGRAM |
| The major aim with this day is to create public awareness and to provide a basic education opportunity with regards to first aid care for burn wounds, stab wounds and minor injuries. It also takes a look at home care as care modality and the role and profile of the home based care worker. With diabetes being widespread, this day will also be an opportunity for any person with diabetes, to have a diabetic foot screen that will determine individual risk for developing a diabetic foot complication in future. | The overall goal of the academic and advocacy part of this conference is to establish common ground for organizations, charities and health professionals alike, to come together and speak about their findings on uncovering their hidden wounds. It is as much the identification of individual wound care problem areas in economically challenged environments, as it is to develop a global perspective on this issue. The global initiative includes participating nations such as South Africa, Tanzania, Ghana, Cameroon, India, Vietnam, Indonesia, Guyana, Brazil and Canada. The academic format will comprise of key note sessions on major issues with breakaway sessions where pilot study presenters from all over the world will unveil their respective hidden wound identities. The collaborative effort will be fed back into the conference with the establishment of working groups to facilitate future guidelines for provision of care and treatment for all wounds globally. |
