Dear Delegates and Exhibitors

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the official website of the 17th International Congress of Hyperbaric Medicine (ICHM) meeting scheduled for 16-19 March 2011 in Cape Town, South Africa.This ICHM meeting is planned in close association with the University of Stellenbosch; Faculty of Health Sciences; Department of Interdisciplinary Health Sciences; Division of Community Health; Undersea & Hyperbaric Medicine Section.

The conference will take place at the International Convention Centre in Cape Town, South Africa from 16-19 March 2011.

For the 17th ICHM 2011 meeting, the Conference Committee has decided to fashion the event around the present interests and pressing needs of modern diving and hyperbaric medicine.
Accordingly this meeting will include -

    (1) Keynote Presentations:
  • a. Critical reviews on the evidence-base for the practice of hyperbaric medicine in key areas: e.g., Radionecrosis, Diabetes & Crush Injuries - Mike Bennett.

  • b. Practical issues surrounding Wound Care in Hyperbaric Medical Practice eg.,managing ischaemia and hypoxia through a multidisciplinary approach - various speakers.

  • c. Essential Occupational Medical Principals and Practice as they relate to Diving & Hyperbaric Medicine - Jack Meintjies.

  • d. Medical Directors safety responsibilities regarding staff and patients - Ian Miller.

    (2) Scientific Presentations:
  • a. Oral and

  • b. Poster

    (3) Workshops:
  • a. Workshop on Hyperbaric Chamber Safety and Risk Assessment with emphasis on Acrylics (viewports) - By Francois Burman, tom Workman & Rob Sheffield.

  • b. Workshop on Diving Accident and Fatality Investigation - diver and equipment issues - By Jim Caruso & Simon Mitchell.
